Cooper eventually gets her to come out and perform with them by saying, "Helen, no. She runs and hides in the girls' bathroom with her friend, Valerie. On the night of the performance, Helen finds out what Cooper had done to try and send her to a different school. However, Cooper had already teamed up with other girls to get Helen kicked out of school and sent somewhere else before he realized how much he liked Helen. Overtime, Cooper actually becomes good friends with Helen and they kiss after realizing that they really do like each other. Cooper even fills out an application form on Helen's behalf that would send her to a different school. Cooper hates this idea because he believes that recruiting Helen will completely and utterly destroy his chances of getting a girlfriend through the Battle of the Bands, so he does everything he can to try and stop Helen from becoming the lead singer. Their only option is to recruit Helen Harriwick, the most disliked girl in school (she is the most disliked girl in school because of false rumors, but Cooper and his friends don't know the rumors are fake). Cooper and his friends try calling everyone they can think of, but they can't find a singer to perform with them. The Ordeal is that his band needs a new lead singer because his friend Sean isn't doing a very good job at it. Later on in the story, Cooper is faced with the Ordeal. He has earned his place and may need to take a break for a cigarette, a joke, or a romance, before facing the Ordeal. They got better and better by the day, but the only thing they were missing was a good lead singer. The Hero has survived his descent into the Special World. Once the demo tape was approved by the teacher in charge of the Battle of the Bands, Cooper and his friends started to hang out more often after school to practice.
